Online guide to maximising cash

A new online guide to help fundraising fun-runners maximise the money they raise goes live next Monday.

The guide is being added to the Institute of Fundraising's www.how2fundraise.org website, launched in June to provide resources for volunteer fundraisers.

The new guide adds to existing advice, according to Donna Day Lafferty, project manager at the institute, which created the guide in partnership with the Royal Parks Half Marathon.

"There was plenty on how to prepare for actually running the race, but the quality of information for people on how to get from zero to £500 was very poor," she said.

Tips range from putting a lead gift amount at the top of your form - don't have a 50p sponsor as your first because donors follow the leader -, to finding a ‘fundraising buddy' who will help you raise the money, drumming up interest in your local press.

"This will teach volunteers to be great fundraisers as well as great event managers," said Day Lafferty.
