Voluntary Action Shrewsbury's website - helping you make a difference

Our service as a CRB Umbrella Body

Need a CRB check doing?

Voluntary Action Shrewsbury is a registered umbrella body with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).

This means Voluntary Action Shrewsbury is registered with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) on the basis that it will countersign applications for Disclosures on behalf of others who are not registered.

Who can use it?
Any voluntary organisation based in Shropshire that needs to use the Disclosure service but does not wish to register with the CRB (at a cost of £300 themselves) can use this service.

Costs?
The cost to an organisation is a one off registration fee of £25.00 to Voluntary Action Shrewsbury, and £10.00 per Disclosure to cover Voluntary Action Shrewsbury's administration costs thereafter.

Please note, these costs are for volunteers only. If you are wanting a CRB check for employment purposes, the cost will be £36.00 plus the £10 admin fee.

Important Changes - to the CRB Portability service

With effect from 1 April 2006, the CRB will no longer process portability requests from customers. This is a direct result of the inherent risks associated with the re-use of a Disclosure. The CRB does not endorse the use of portability. Organisations that choose to accept a previously issued Disclosure do so at their own risk.
Organisations that choose to continue with the practice of accepting a previously issued Disclosure should read the new portability framework.

This framework highlights the risk factors you will need to take into account if you choose to accept a previously issued Disclosure and how you can reduce some of the risks. The overriding consideration must be the safety of those that you are there to protect - the children and the vulnerable. The new portability framework can be viewed on its website: www.crb.gov.uk
