Voluntary Action Shrewsbury's website - helping you make a difference

2005 is the Year of the Volunteer!

2005 is the Year of the Volunteer, a year-long celebration of the amazing work volunteers do and a call to action to get more and more of us volunteering.

The Year aims to:

- Increase the number of volunteers
- Open up volunteering to young people
- Open up volunteering to marginalised groups
- Raise the profile of volunteering
- Thank existing volunteers for their time and commitment

Each month during the Year of the Volunteer a different theme will be highlighted. For May the theme is the environment. Lots more will be appearing on this website throughout the year.
Over the next few pages, we'll tell you about the Year of the Volunteer, give you examples of real local volunteers' experiences and information on volunteering, if you would like to try it for yourself. This includes an online search for over 1,200 volunteering opportunities in Shrewsbury and Shropshire and taps into over 65,000 nationwide volunteering opportunities. For more information, contact Sarah Shires on 01743 341700.
